This dress benefits from both the pencil and swing skirt silhouettes. It has a faux shirtfront in polka or pinstripe and tie-up bow at the collar (pussy bow blouse style) and buttons down to the waist (functional buttons) to make it easy to take off and put on whilst looking formal. The 'upper/over' plain colour layer then billows out a bit over the 'lower/under' layer which is in pencil style. The plain fabric is shorter than the pattern fabric. In reality it is all one layer sewn in sections but it gives the illusion of a double layered, more expensive, two-in-one dress. I think this way will be more wearable and comfy though with coverage yet coolness due to the turn-up sleeves and knee length. Overall I imagine it can be worn for both cuteness and smart wear. |
